Dear President Trump,
I am writing to you today as a curious and concerned American citizen who is trying to make sense of the current direction of our nation. I felt compelled to reach out, particularly given your unique perspective and as someone who has served two terms as our President — a privilege few have had.
Like many, my family has a history deeply intertwined with the promise of America. Both our grandfathers came to this country, settled in the tri-state area, and through hard work, managed to build successful lives. Their stories are a testament to the opportunities this nation has historically offered.
However, recent events have left me with a growing unease and a feeling that I am struggling to fully grasp the principles guiding some decisions. I have been following reports concerning immigration matters, with certain cases raise questions about fairness and due process. For instance, the ruling regarding the Columbia University activist and the situation surrounding the man deported to El Salvador are troubling. Similarly, the detention of a U.S.-born citizen in Florida by immigration authorities, even after a judge acknowledged his birth certificate, is perplexing.
These brief examples underscore a broader concern I have about the application of our values and our nation’s messaging. It leaves me questioning the consistent adherence to the ideals of fairness and the protection of individual rights that I believe are fundamental to our identity as Americans. Or maybe I’m not fully Republican or Conservative or even MAGA, as how it’s commonly seen. Frankly, I am still trying to figure it out. That’s for another time.
My hope is to see a clear and unwavering commitment to American ideals in all actions. I believe open dialogue and a greater understanding of the rationale behind these events are essential for fostering trust and unity among all Americans. You’re a practical man. I respect the office you hold greatly. It’s a hallmark of being American. I’m just hoping for some background in your thinking.
With respect for the Office of the President, a concerned American citizen.
Omar
