Assalam Alaikum/Peace

I am Omar, chaplain by day, family man every time else. In 2016, I graduated from Zaytuna College becoming a part of the third graduating class. Three years later, I completed my masters from Hartford International University. Since then, I have had a long time to think and discuss, sometimes argue, and think some more.

Now I hope to contribute. As a Muslim, we have a rich tradition of writing. So, I thought, what? And this is me trying to figure it out. I hope you will join me along the way. I believe that if we are to live in this country and contribute, we must diffuse the tension that sometimes arises. That means we will disagree and sometimes argue. We must get through this together like we’ve done before. That is what makes America great. Us.

If you may, please share an email so that we may keep in touch.

Online can never replace being together and touching grass. But even here, we can be together.

With love,

Assalam Alaikum,

Omar B.

Exploring the intersections of Islam, America, and society—one thought-provoking piece at a time, with occasional detours. Just searching for meaning in the spaces between words, in the echoes of faith, and the rhythm of change. BismilLah.

This is me approaching forty. I’ll be honest—I still don’t know what it’s supposed to mean. I’ve spent the last 13 years learning on the fly. Along the way came laughter, sadness, mistakes (Sorry, God.), and mercy. I grow. I stumble. I try again.
